Invited lecture “Lithium-ion Batteries”

The invited lecture “Lithium-ion Batteries” was held on 28 November 2025 at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology Osijek (FERIT) as part of the SynGRID project activities and the project’s lecturer exchange programme.

The lecture was delivered by Dr. Hrvoje Pandžić, full professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb (FER), to second-year master’s students of Electrical Engineering, module Power Engineering. The aim of the event was to familiarise students with the fundamental principles, operation, and practical applications of lithium-ion battery technologies, with a particular focus on their integration into low-voltage (LV) power distribution networks.

Students were introduced to key topics including lithium-ion battery chemistry, cell structure, charging and discharging processes, performance characteristics, degradation mechanisms, and safety considerations. Special emphasis was placed on the role of lithium-ion batteries in modern LV grids.
